I WANT A PERFORMING ARTS CENTER!
Ok i havn't blogged about this yet, which is weird. In november, on November 14th to be exact, the camrose city council held a meeting. The 8th item on the agenda was "Does Camrose Need A Performing Arts Center?". Well the news got out, thank god, that this would be discussed and many drama/music/dance folk got rather rowled up and excited for the big day....there were even big red pins sold that read "I Want A Performing Arts Center". As the big day, or shall we say evening, grew neareryou could see more and more people sporting these large bright read pins. It was phenominal. On November 14th me and vlatka walked into the building where the meeting was being held...being the idiots that we are we went downstairs and started shouting trying to find people before realizing that the meeting was taking place upstairs. But we did manage to arrive early enough to get a seat in the meeting room. The first few events descussed were rather boring but as the meeting progressed more and more people started to show up...they only let so many in the room, there were people down the hall, down the stairs and streaming out the door...that place was packed! There were camrosians of all ages i'd say at least 300. Some of my dear friends from churchmice marched in with signs that read "The Churchmice Players Need A Home!". So the Mayor brought up the issue at hand and all the people started cheering it was amazing....and then Ina, a council meeting made a motion that the council supports the construction of a performing arts center! yay! they didn't have a choice, if they had gone against it they would have been mauled. It was so awesome though..it was like this is what democracy looks like all those people manifesting together to reach their objective! So that got me perty excited!
But than........ I talked to Ina, the city council person and she said that yes, the council had agreed to support it but that didnt mean much because they had not agreed to put an exact amount of money towards it, they had not agreed to an exact construction date...sometime in 2007 is all they said. So they didn't agree to much...but it is still some progress! Any ways.
